Drive-in Dreams

As promised, here's todays outfit post. I wore this to the ballet exhibition in the city on Tuesday that I spoke about in my last two posts and hey look! I finally took some photos that weren't in/around my house!!  This has to be one of my favourite casual dresses in my wardrobe. It's so floaty and feminine and fits like a glove. Every time I wear it, I feel like I should be working at a drive in cinema in the 50's or 60's, rollerskating around, handing popcorn to people. Sadly though my dreams are dashed when I remember my roller skating skill level safely rests at the zero notch and hasn't budged since I was 12 and crashed into my dads car on my last attempt. And if you think that's bad, don't even get me started on the way I ice-skate. Still, a girl can dream, no? As for the shoes, I am a sucker for brogues and it is my biggest sartorial goal to have the wickedest collection of these bad boys in every possible colour by the time I die. Ooohh, maybe I'll make a Sartorial Bucket List!

Have a wonderful weekend my lovelies, I have to work :(

A cheesy grin from Patrick who was wonderful enough to take my photos for me. Thank you, kind boy!

"Time in Motion" Part 2

The exhibit featured designs, paintings, costumes, photographs and video footage of various endevours undertaken by the Australian ballet from it's first performance of Swan Lake in 1962. I found comparing the detail of an original design to the finished costume to be particularly interesting and I wish I could have seen more of the process in between. My favourite designs in the exhibit were by Kristian Fredrikson and Jennifer Irwin; both who use fine brush strokes to convey intense detail.

I highly recommend anyone in Sydney who loves dance, design or just looking at really pretty costumes to spend a bit of time at this showcase. It really is worth the time plus it's free! The link at the bottom will give you more information on the exhibition.

"Time in Motion: 50 Years of the Australian Ballet" Exhibition

Yesterday, Patrick and I visited the NSW State Library for their exhibition celebrating 50 Years of the Australian Ballet, called "Time in Motion." I won't be shy in admitting I'm one of those cliched thousands that can't escape a total love affair with the ballet aesthetic. I mean, who could resist? Aside from all the grace and delicate beauty that attracts followers by the dozens, it's just plain awesome!
I don't think I've ever mentioned on the blog before that I take dance classes. I'm not looking to be a professional or anything of the sort, but dance is one of my hobbies. I've dappled in jazz, tap and contemporary but my real love is classical ballet and I'm slowly making my way through the grades of my syllabus. So yesterday's excursion was a total treat for me and I think Pat surprised himself and enjoyed it a fair bit too :)

Because I took a few too many photos, I'm splitting this post in two. I'll post half the pictures today, and half tomorrow to give my poor internet a break. Sorry about the reflections and glares in some of the pictures, the lighting was not my friend. Click >here< for more information on the exhibit.

More soon,
A.

P.S. This 400 million year old fossil was just hanging out in a marble wall behind a fire hydrant in the state library. I classify that pretty darn random!

When I Wish Upon a Star

Pretty soon I'm going to be heading back to university so I thought I'd make a little wish list of ASOS items that most likely will not aid in my education or academic ventures at all but will sure as hell put a smile on my face as I walk around campus. I've even gone right on ahead and linked each image with where the item can be purchased, just in case any of you are feeling generous. (Also because I know a certain boy will read this whose dream it has always beed to buy me number 2. Ahem.) Clicking on the numbers at the bottom of the post will take you there.

Also, I'm going to go right on ahead and make a brief but exciting announcement. Recently I decided that the course I was undertaking at university just wasn't right for me and that I was spending increasing amounts of time submerging myself in all things fashion, from reading blogs to pouring over beautiful lookbooks and even sketching some things of my own. Indeed, so much time that I decided I may as well be studying it full-time. SO. I applied and was accepted into Whitehouse Institute of Design in Sydney where I'm beginning a Bachelor of Design majoring in Fashion. Pretty groovy, huh? Well, I'm stoked! I'm considering sharing a few pieces from my portfolio on the blog. Maybe, just maybe. In any case, I can't wait to share my new experiences on the blog :)

Hope you're having a marvellous weekend,
A.

Brick Walls and Books

Hiya, it's so very hot and I'm so very fidgety. I've spent the last few days with my nose buried in books, trying to escape both boredom and heat. I've recently finished 'Slaughterhouse Five' by Kurt Vonnegut and 'Life of Pi' by Yann Martel. I enjoyed both, though the former took my fancy a little more than the latter. I haven't seen the 'Life of Pi' film yet so I'm keen to see what will vary between the two versions.

As you probably noticed, I took some more snaps! And so soon following the last lot, gosh! Don't say I don't treat you ;) I decided that I don't wear my waistcoat nearly enough as need be so I structured this outfit around that piece. Hey, maybe I'll do a waistcoat style series? The outfit turned out to have an unintentional 'sailor-meets-school-boy' vibe which I could never deem a bad thing. I hope you like my brick wall background, lets all say I'm trying to be minimalistic and am not just plain cowardly about posing in public settings. Hush, I'm still new and shy with all this! I will venture further eventually. My hat is a thrift store find which I love but am thinking of dressing up a little. Any ideas?

Anyhow, I best be getting my hustle on or I'll be late to work.

Stay safe,

A.

P.S. About to have a serious moment. Wind threatens to take my hat and blows hair in face/mouth.

Insta Insta Instagram!

#ChocolatemilkShakeForTwo!

Hello Hello, I bet you weren't expecting me back this soon! It's okay, I surprised myself too. I had a super lazy day at home, mainly working on my blog template. I am certainly not computer savvy so it took me a wee bit too long to work out a wee bit too little. How do you like my new header though? I'm not sure if it tickles my fancy quite yet but I'm giving it a go because I'm a kindhearted, good soul. Also because it took me waayy too long to put together to justify not having a spot on the blog for over 24 hours. And look at that little cootie on the right!! Leo Bear is vamping his adorable up a few too many notches for me to handle all on my own so I've shared.

So these here pictures are a few of my recent Instagram shots and random iPhone pictures. I'm not an avid insta user on account of my limited photography skills (it's shameful, really) but hopefully that'll change. They are mainly just fun snaps of fun times with fun people who are my favourite. I hope you enjoy my hashtag captions, I got a little crazy with them. If you would like to follow along with my instagram I will have no qualms in the least, I promise ;) no, but really. You'd never guess my username: prettyromeo

That's all for now, friends as I smell marinated fish on the barbecue.
