Yes please!

With uni starting up next week I've got my mind on purchasing some neat, comfortable flat shoes that are versatile. But which ones?

Happy Valentines

Happy Valentines everybody! Every year I hear several of my friends recycling the old argument that valentines day is overrated, unnecessary or pointless. I'm in complete agreement that love, romantic or otherwise, should be celebrated all day everyday, but no one lives in that kind of world. Life just gets in the way and we take the people we care about for granted without meaning to. So why not set aside a day where we can remember all those things that makes somebody special to us? Besides, arguing about valentines day sort of defeats its purpose.

On that note, a big thank you to this strapping young lad who spoils me rotten by just being his wonderful self. Thanks for being the best, sweet boy :) This is my favourite polaroid!

Leather

Yessir it's hot! Let me tell you, taking photos in leather on a hot day is not pleasant. I'm sorry for my week long break but I do have a legitimate explanation! My sisters laptop broke down and I lent her mine for the week for her to finish up summer school assignments and homework. I managed to be productive in that time not spent trawling the inter-webs though and did some long awaited room decorations! Pictures soon :) I DIY'd some paper bunting and set up a small bookcase, hung some framed pictures etc etc. Anyhow, how cool is this t-shirt? I love how the pointed leather sleeves take it from being a wardrobe basic to being edgy and a tiny bit kick-ass. On that note, I'll be legging it out the  door to make it to work on time.

Happy days, my friends!

Drive-in Dreams

As promised, here's todays outfit post. I wore this to the ballet exhibition in the city on Tuesday that I spoke about in my last two posts and hey look! I finally took some photos that weren't in/around my house!!  This has to be one of my favourite casual dresses in my wardrobe. It's so floaty and feminine and fits like a glove. Every time I wear it, I feel like I should be working at a drive in cinema in the 50's or 60's, rollerskating around, handing popcorn to people. Sadly though my dreams are dashed when I remember my roller skating skill level safely rests at the zero notch and hasn't budged since I was 12 and crashed into my dads car on my last attempt. And if you think that's bad, don't even get me started on the way I ice-skate. Still, a girl can dream, no? As for the shoes, I am a sucker for brogues and it is my biggest sartorial goal to have the wickedest collection of these bad boys in every possible colour by the time I die. Ooohh, maybe I'll make a Sartorial Bucket List!

Have a wonderful weekend my lovelies, I have to work :(

A cheesy grin from Patrick who was wonderful enough to take my photos for me. Thank you, kind boy!

"Time in Motion" Part 2

The exhibit featured designs, paintings, costumes, photographs and video footage of various endevours undertaken by the Australian ballet from it's first performance of Swan Lake in 1962. I found comparing the detail of an original design to the finished costume to be particularly interesting and I wish I could have seen more of the process in between. My favourite designs in the exhibit were by Kristian Fredrikson and Jennifer Irwin; both who use fine brush strokes to convey intense detail.

I highly recommend anyone in Sydney who loves dance, design or just looking at really pretty costumes to spend a bit of time at this showcase. It really is worth the time plus it's free! The link at the bottom will give you more information on the exhibition.

"Time in Motion: 50 Years of the Australian Ballet" Exhibition

Yesterday, Patrick and I visited the NSW State Library for their exhibition celebrating 50 Years of the Australian Ballet, called "Time in Motion." I won't be shy in admitting I'm one of those cliched thousands that can't escape a total love affair with the ballet aesthetic. I mean, who could resist? Aside from all the grace and delicate beauty that attracts followers by the dozens, it's just plain awesome!
I don't think I've ever mentioned on the blog before that I take dance classes. I'm not looking to be a professional or anything of the sort, but dance is one of my hobbies. I've dappled in jazz, tap and contemporary but my real love is classical ballet and I'm slowly making my way through the grades of my syllabus. So yesterday's excursion was a total treat for me and I think Pat surprised himself and enjoyed it a fair bit too :)

Because I took a few too many photos, I'm splitting this post in two. I'll post half the pictures today, and half tomorrow to give my poor internet a break. Sorry about the reflections and glares in some of the pictures, the lighting was not my friend. Click >here< for more information on the exhibit.

More soon,
A.

P.S. This 400 million year old fossil was just hanging out in a marble wall behind a fire hydrant in the state library. I classify that pretty darn random!

When I Wish Upon a Star

Pretty soon I'm going to be heading back to university so I thought I'd make a little wish list of ASOS items that most likely will not aid in my education or academic ventures at all but will sure as hell put a smile on my face as I walk around campus. I've even gone right on ahead and linked each image with where the item can be purchased, just in case any of you are feeling generous. (Also because I know a certain boy will read this whose dream it has always beed to buy me number 2. Ahem.) Clicking on the numbers at the bottom of the post will take you there.

Also, I'm going to go right on ahead and make a brief but exciting announcement. Recently I decided that the course I was undertaking at university just wasn't right for me and that I was spending increasing amounts of time submerging myself in all things fashion, from reading blogs to pouring over beautiful lookbooks and even sketching some things of my own. Indeed, so much time that I decided I may as well be studying it full-time. SO. I applied and was accepted into Whitehouse Institute of Design in Sydney where I'm beginning a Bachelor of Design majoring in Fashion. Pretty groovy, huh? Well, I'm stoked! I'm considering sharing a few pieces from my portfolio on the blog. Maybe, just maybe. In any case, I can't wait to share my new experiences on the blog :)

Hope you're having a marvellous weekend,
A.
